She manages to scare them off, but the following night his body is dumped on her doorstep and she realises there's bigger problems in town. However the next time they meet he's being chased by some out-of-towners a rare combination of werewolf with human accomplices. He seems a nice enough lad, and Mercy hires him. A newly turned werewolf arrives in her garage looking for work. A very different creature to the werewolves, but close enough to understand them.

Her somewhat unique heritage is as a Native American shapeshifter, into a Coyote - fast and clever but lacking in brute power. Mercy has long since outgrown her adopted family of werewolves and lives independently in central US as a mechanic. It is competently done, SOme nice hookls for future backstory development and a constrained world that is internally consistent and references european myth with enough unique US spin. First of a long running UF series featuring werewolves and vampires, but I think this preceded Twilight.
