She manages to scare them off, but the following night his body is dumped on her doorstep and she realises there's bigger problems in town. A newly turned werewolf arrives in her garage looking for work. A very different creature to the werewolves, but close enough to understand them.
Her somewhat unique heritage is as a Native American shapeshifter, into a Coyote - fast and clever but lacking in brute power. Mercy has long since outgrown her adopted family of werewolves and lives independently in central US as a mechanic. It is competently done, SOme nice hookls for future backstory development and a constrained world that is internally consistent and references european myth with enough unique US spin. First of a long running UF series featuring werewolves and vampires, but I think this preceded Twilight.
